The parikrama (circumambulation) of Mount Kailash
continued like this for 33km. We would walk and walk
in the thin air, turn the corner of a mountain and see
miles and miles still ahead of us. The sherpas would
jog past us with their extra packs and say, "Just around
the corner!" and disappear into the distance. It was
always "just around the corner"-- that elusive corner!
Hours and hours later, there were more miles
and miles ahead... and then uphill to 18,700 feet
at the Droma pass before descending again.
