Sadhana Mandir Ashram

View from the banks of the Ganga, across to the wild jungles of India

Surrounded by the Himalayan foothills, the Sadhana Mandir ("temple of spiritual practice") Ashram in Rishikesh serves as an international center for the ancient teachings of yoga and meditation, and their related sciences and philosophies. The ashram radiates with the peacefulness of meditation and retreat. Coming to this ashram even for the first time, one can experience the special energy, inspiration, and pull to inner peacefulness.

Founded by Swami Rama in 1966, Sadhana Mandir ashram was established as a retreat center for sincere aspirants to practice meditation in a spiritually elevating environment. This ashram vibrates with the energy of the Himalayan Tradition of sages from their years of meditation and sacred yoga practices. The Himalayan Tradition is an unbroken stream of eternal love and knowledge flowing from the long lineage of great masters.

The Sadhana Mandir Ashram is an incredible place to stay-- it's where Ragani spent her time in India with her guru (Swami Rama). The ashram provides clean, highly-filtered drinking water and freshly prepared, delicious vegetarian meals. When resident swamis are present, there are often opportunities for evening lectures and satsang (company with the sages). A long, long paved walkway lies just in front of the ashram where you can take beautiful walks along the Ganga-- perfect for morning or evening strolls. The mornings are stunning, as the sun rises from behind the mountains, and cuts through the fog. With the wild jungles on the opposite side of the Ganga, you can sometimes see (easier with binoculars) herds of elephants coming to the waters to drink. The slower paced lifestyle at the ashram and in Rishikesh makes it an easy location choice for anyone coming to India for the first time or returning for a deeper experience of India.

Note: Due to the Ashram’s spiritual origin and affiliations, no meat or alcohol consumption is permitted. No smoking is allowed on the premises.

Uttarkashi Hotel

..
Gangotri Tented Resort

..

Accommodations in Uttarkashi, in the foothills of
the Himalayas, will be in a rustic local hotel, just
outside the main town of Uttarkashi. This
comfortable little hotel will be the rest stop for
our Uttarkashi experience.

During our time in Gangotri, our accommodations
will be in a unique and idyllic tented resort that
rests on the banks of the Alaknanda river, 18 km
before Gangotri (see photos to left). Beautiful!
We'll be sleeping in thatched roof, double occupancy tented huts, which are about the
same size as a hotel room (12'x10') with an
attached bathroom (6'x12'). Each tented hut
has two comfortable cots with full bedding, an
attached bathroom (western-style toilets that have
running water facility). Hot water is available for
showers, and the staff here will even provide hot
water bottles to warm our beds, if needed. :) And
believe it or not, STD/ISD phone calling facilities
are also available on campus too (no kidding!).

This tented resort is an amazing little
development on the side of the mountain, and
we will thoroughly enjoy its scenic beauty and
the high energy it offers for meditation.
