2 - 1 Liter water bottles (4 total for Dale and me)- now will likely need to be emptied and packed in the checked luggage, thanks to new travel restrictions). We're planning to buy water at the expensive airport (if that's the only option for having extra water on board, as the air on the plane is quite dry!)

crystallized ginger (for travel sickness)

toiletries bag (soap, shampoo/rinse, toothpaste/toothbrush, deodorant, razors, bandaids, tampons/pads, hairbrush/comb, etc.)

sunglasses

sunscreen/lip balm

pocket flashlight

insect repellent

laundry bag (mesh bag will do-- something to carry your clothes for the laundry man)*

Kleenex tissues or similar (small travel packs)

Wash ‘N’ Dries or similar (for day trips-- you'll want something to clean your hands before eating)

powdered laundry soap (1-2 cups should do-- for quick wash of any underwear or extras)*

earplugs and eye covers (for plane trip)

pillow for plane/ashram***

ZIPLOCK baggies—for clothing, etc. Pack your stuff in them! Good for bus/jeep transport of
suitcases (mountains, etc.)

extra ziplock baggies (large and small) for purchased items or food items (to keep the small critters out of your rooms!)

small flashlight (electricity goes out often in India, and when it's dark, it's really dark!)

extra batteries (for flashlight, etc.)

paper bag (for room trash)-- they don't really have trash bins at the ashram

any list of what you'd like to buy in India
(friends to remember!)

* We will have a dhobi (laundry man) come to the ashram several times during our group's visit.
You'll usually get your clothes returned 1-2 days after washing (they need to hang a day to dry).

** Note: Dale and I are bringing key locks for your rooms at the ashram in Rishikesh.
You will be in double rooms and each of you will be given a key (we have also made an
extra third key for us to keep, if you should wish). So no need to bring any room locks!

*** There WILL be a pillow for you at the ashram, but the Indian pillows are sad little pillows. Flat little hard things. I've never traveled with a pillow in the past, and Dale has carried an air pillows (good for the plane too). This time we're going to try stuffing a regular pillow in a stuff sac (like the ones for sleeping bags) so that we have a good pillow for the ashram. Then we'll just leave it there when we leave.
We'll see how that works!

**** Travelers checks are always a good idea. We often travel with cash too. Either way, you will change money at banks and major hotels (like the airport bank and the Oberoi Hotel, where we'll be staying). Remember to NEVER change money or pay people with US dollars on the street (that can land you in jail!)!
