Kirtan Documentary Movie
The producers of the kirtan documentary are working hard. They tell me that for every hour of film used in the movie, some 30-40 hours have been gathered in videotaping. Wow! I guess that's why I'm not in the movie business... But seriously, they know you've been waiting to see the movie, and they are working hard to complete it by the beginning of 2008. They do plan to enter it into several film festivals, so we'll see where it goes from there. As for now, the website-wala (their guy who does the techno stuff!) is creating a cool website for the movie (it's not available to visit yet!). So very soon, you all will be able to go see the sneak previews and check out lots of cool stuff there... :) --Ragani
Kirtan Documentary Production Notes:
08.Sept.2007- The layout of the movie is being completed at this time, and they are adding photos, some music, and working with the final feel for the movie flow. It's getting exciting now! There are stories being told in this movie that you won't want to miss...
26.April.2007- We filmed some additional interviews and footage for the movie, and the editing of footage continues. The producers are aiming to complete this project by the end of 2007, so that it can be released to all of you. We just began working with the music tracks for the movie, and soon they'll be adding music to the footage that is completed. Stay tuned...
25.October.2006- After nearly a year of delays in their production work for other projects, the producers of the documentary kirtan movie have returned in good force to completion of this project. We're thrilled! And we're praying for a 2007 release!
17.October.2005- The producers recently completed their Libertarian Party documentary about Ed Thompson and ended up spending a great deal more time than expected for marketing (it happens!). That movie was started before the kirtan documentary, so now that it's completed (and marketing is on its way), they'll be returning to complete the kirtan documentary. I hope it's done by end of 2006! Some additional filming has to take place, though most of what remains is the editing and scripting of the story, which will focus on the spiritual experience behind the tradition of kirtan. It's going to be a good one! So if you want to keep updated on the movie progress, sign up for the "Be notified of page updates" (you'll get an automatic e-mail when new entries like this one are made) in the column to the left, and you'll be the first to find out! I'm as excited as you are to get this movie released!!
22.March.2005- Today, during my retreat in the woods to begin preproduction on our next CD (read about the retreat!), Dave (the producer) visited to get some footage of that process for the kirtan movie. He was able to film my work in preproduction and-- even more exciting!-- because such great progress was made during this retreat, Dave was also able to film LIVE footage of the recording process with Tim, our lead live drummer who is being featured on this next CD!. So in the movie, you'll see the REAL tracks that we were recording for a chant to be on a future CD! You'll get to have a peak behind-the-scenes of what was taking place for the pre-production and the actual live recording of tracks! In mid-April we'll be filming Girish laying down the tabla (drum) tracks for the CD (both Girish and Tim are being featured on our next album).
10.March.2005- The producers will be coming to my retreat in the woods to film some footage of the pre-production work. They still need additional footage to tell their kirtan story, so filming will resume during the recording process in the months to follow. Everything that's happening will be recorded here for you to see!
23.February.2005- By mid-March, when I start the pre-production retreat for recording our next CD, the producer of the kirtan documentary movie will begin working again on this movie. They still need a bit of footage to fill in the stories on the movie, and for
the next few months, that will be their main focus in addition to the editing and logging process (that's
where they watch ALL the footage and record what's happening in each section). The producers have also agreed to make a separate DVD of our live first Friday chanting event as well. 09.January.2005- Just got word that the producer's libertarian documentary is nearly completed. After that, they are planning to return to the kirtan documentary with 100% focus! It's still scheduled to be released this year, and hopefully by fall. Stay tuned.
31.December.2004- No updates at this time. Hang in there folks! We're all eager to see this one done! :)
26.November.2004- Just returned from a meeting with Dave, the producer. They are still working to complete their libertarian documentary! We'll be hearing about that one soon, I hope! After that one is completed, he aims to dive into the kirtan documentary until its completion. So given the usual delays in filming, I expect you'll be hearing more by January 2005 about the editing process. I'm hoping this film might be completed by summer 2005. Hang in there folks!
11.October.2004- The producers are still completing their Libertarian documentary movie, so no new "news" on the kirtan documentary movie project for these past two weeks. Stay tuned! :)
23.September.2004- I haven't heard from the producers in the past two weeks, and I know they are working hard to get their Libertarian Party documentary completed prior to elections this November. After that, they turn their time and energy to the kirtan documentary, which is the next movie they will release.
10.September.2004- The producers found they will need a few additional shots/images for their movie, so they will spend a month or so collecting those images. And the logging of footage will continue during this time... Movie release is still scheduled for early 2005! :)
29.August.2004- Dave and Jason are hard at work logging tapes (that's when they review all the footage they've recorded and note what's where). They are about 1/3 through this task. Next is editing-- the fun part! That's when the movie really starts to take shape!
